Coarse Fishing

Beat length approximately 1.8 km (1.1 miles).

Trout, Grayling, Dace, Perch, Chub, Barbel, Pike.
Coarse Fishing
This part of the river is ideal coarse fishing water with plenty of cover on the far bank and a mix of pools, glides and faster water.
Fly Fishing
In low are conditions fly fishing is possible in some locations. Although there are some gravel areas extreme care should be taken if wading as the river bed is very silty and you could get stuck. Also there is also some deep water, strong currents and big drop offs therefore wading should be avoided.
No Night fishing without prior permission.
Access
This beat has good vehicle access. There are two tracks. One leads to the top of the beat, the other to the bottom of the beat. Access is through locked gates. There are no public footpaths. Anglers should park beside the track near the gate. Do not block the track or the gates as they are in use by the farmer.
Gates MUST be closed behind you. Combination locks MUST be put back on and the numbers mixed up to ensure no unauthorised people gain access.
If conditions are suitable vehicles may be driven along the embankment. Stay on the track. You can park near your fishing location but your vehicle must be left at the side of the track. DO NOT drive across the fields or attempt to drive down the embankment to get nearer to the river. It is only a short walk.
You must display a RADAS parking permit when you visit this beat.
Parking permit and the number for the combinations locks can be obtained from the secretary.
CATCH RETURNS MUST BE SUBMITTED WITHOUT FAIL.
Be prepared to show your EA licence to the farmer.

Drive into Gatenby village, pass the sign on your left and take the next right turn.

Drive down the lane. Go past the entrance to Old Hall Farm. Drive a little further on until you see a set of wooden double gates on your left. There is a "Private Fishing" sign and an "Op Traverse" sign fixed to the fence. Go through the gates.

When you arrive at this junction turn left for the top end of the beat or go straight on for the bottom of the beat.

If the ground is wet, go through the gate and park at the side of the field between the two trees. Proceed on foot.

Go over the brow and then down to flat ground. The embankment is straight ahead at the tree line. It's about a ten minute walk.
