D'Arcy Hildyard Lakes

There are two lakes.  Both cover a considerable area although one is larger than the other. The lakes have been stocked with rainbow trout in the past. It is not known what species exist in the lakes at present. We do plan to stock when we have gathered more information.

Opens For Fishing 16th June 2025

members only - no day permit holders

Access

To get to the lakes you can follow the directions below or you can walk in from Easby or St Giles Farm. Alternatively walk over the Bailey Bridge from the north bank or park at Broken Brae and wade across. The latter should only be attempted in low water conditions and is entirely at your own risk.

Close to the parking area is a prominent sign for the coast to coast walk.

Go up the farm track

Follow the farm track, passing the farm on your left.

Go through the first gate

Immediately after the farm is a gate into a field. Close the gate behind you and walk uphill to the next gate. Go through it, closing it behind you and keep going staying on the track all the way.

The last gate

Steep track downhill

At the far side of the field you will arrive at another gate. This is the last gate. Go through and ensure  you close it behind you.

The track now goes downhill. It is quite steep. Turn right at the bottom and proceed to the lakes.

It is a ten minute walk from the parking area to the lakes.
